How can I make them stop?

Harassing Debt Collectors

The federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) was passed more than 30 years ago to spell out the rights that Americans have in regards to people trying to collect debts.  We have experience using the FDCPA to protect your rights and to give you relief from the harassment

Debt collectors have to stop contacting you if you tell them to stop.  Once you get a call from a collector about a debt and you decide you no longer want to hear from them, let them know that in writing. Send the original letter (keep a copy for yourself) to the collector via certified mail (so you have a record) to stop.  After that letter is received, the collector can only contact you to tell you they will stop or to tell you they are taking a specific action, such as filing a lawsuit.

We can help you with that letter and give you other options that may work best for your particular situation if you call us for a free consultation.  The number for Alabama Consumer Lawyers is 205-322-1201 or you can contact us through our contact page. If you are the victim of a harassing debt collector or a collector who is using unfair or illegal ways of trying to squeeze money out of you, let us know right away.  There are time limits to violations of the FDCPA so the sooner we hear about the problem, the more we can do to help.
